THE SOMNAMBULIST COVER DESIGN...

The VV is delighted to have seen Orion's hardback cover design for her debut novel, The Somnambulist. And not just one cover, but two - to be published simultaneously.

Which do you prefer?

There won't be a dust jacket. The design will be printed and embossed directly onto laminated board. Below is a view of the spine and back - although with a different strap line which was changed in favour of the one above, but otherwise as the book will appear -

  1. I prefer the lower one, for what it's worth.

  2. What a striking cover! I love them both but I think I prefer the bottom one of the two.

  3. They're both rather nice, but I agree with Kath -- the bottom one looks the best out of the two.

  4. They're both wonderful, but if forced to choose, I think I'd pick the lower one. It just seems to pop a bit more.

  5. I love them both! You must be so delighted. My fave is actually the top one, but I'd settle for either. How lovely!

  7. Lower one. Hope you have the same treatment on spine and back cover too.

  8. Thank you so much, Patrick, Kath, Ian, Portia, Betty, Suzie, Laura - I'm counting these votes! And, Gary, yes - the cover will run around...I've found an image to show that. Thanks for reminding me to post.

  10. What a marvelous cover design! I like the dark background best, but it is very hard to choose between them.

  11. Beautiful cover designs! I like the second one best. Congratulations on your novel! :)

  12. Lovely! Think I like the second one best. Will there be equal quantities of each issued? Or will one be rarer, and therefore a collector's item in years to come?

  13. Thanks, Caroline, Michelle, Novembersautumn and Womagwriter - I think they will be printed in equal quantities, but then again, I imagine the sales force will soon have an idea of preferences. It really is hard to choose. The red is more dramatic and striking, but the paler version is somehow more elegant.

  14. Both covers are equally lovely but, as much as the red one pops, I prefer the paler one. Still, the best part is that it's the cover for Essie's book — yay!

  15. I like them both - they're very distinctive! Maybe you'll have collectors wanting to buy both :) If I had to pick, I'd go for the paler one as well.
